ThinkFirst Greater Kansas City Wins
2008 Chapter of the Year
Award!
ThinkFirst Greater Kansas City was recently awarded the coveted Chapter of the Year award during a ceremony at the ThinkFirst National Injury Prevention Foundation Conference in Chicago on April 27th. The Kansas City-based chapter was recognized for operating one of the most productive chapters in the nation, reaching approximately 30,000 young people each year.

Congratulations to Co-Chapter Directors Cynthia Randazzo and Rose Simone, and all the Kansas City-area ThinkFirst VIP speakers!

ThinkFirst Missouri Receives International Safety Media Award

ISMA Award

ThinkFirst Missouri Chapter Director, Michelle Gibler, PhD,
accepting International Safety Media Award during 9th World Conference
on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Merida, Mexico

ThinkFirst Missouri received the prestigious Silver Award from the International Safety Media Awards (ISMA) Committee during a ceremony at the 9th World Conference on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion in Merida, Mexico. ThinkFirst was honored for its innovative print campaign, “We’d Like to Crash Your Party.” The creative media services of local ad agency WoodruffSweitzer were utilized for the development of the campaign. The project was funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The purpose of ISMA’s international media awards program is to honor powerful injury prevention media campaigns worldwide. Over 150 entries of print, audio, and video media materials were submitted to ISMA for consideration.

ThinkFirst Missouri partners with
the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety (MCRS)
to make official statewide traffic safety announcement
ThinkFirst Missouri, a trauma prevention program of PM&R, hosted a statewide press conference on January 11, 2008 to announce that the MCRS met its goal of “1,000 or fewer motor vehicle fatalities by 2008.”

ThinkFirst partners with MO Coalition for Roadway Safety
for “Arrive Alive Day” at the Mizzou Game

Members of the MO Coalition for Roadway Safety recently hosted “Arrive Alive Day” at the Mizzou vs Texas A & M football game on November 10, 2007. The purpose of the event was to conduct a high-impact traffic safety awareness campaign targeted primarily at students and sports fans. The media blitz involved extensive advertising on the Tiger Radio Network, game day announcements on the megatron, TV PSAs, and on-site activities and exhibits for the fans to enjoy.

2nd Annual Syrup Swim Benefits ThinkFirst

IHOP presents check to ThinkFirst

The IHOP Restaurant teamed up with ThinkFirst September 18th,2007 to hold their 2nd Annual Syrup Swim. The swimmers included Kansas City Chiefs Safety Jarrad Page, ThinkFirst representative Dr. Ted Higgins and a representative from IHOP. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about safety measures that can prevent brain injury and spinal cord injury including water safety, seat belt usage and helmet usage. Participants were “swimming” for coins in a pool filled with maple syrup to raise money for Think First. In addition, 10 IHOP stores in the area collected donations. A total of $2,500 was raised to support ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City. SEE VIDEO

ThinkFirst Missouri Receives 2007 People Saving People Award

People Saving People AwardPMR’s ThinkFirst Missouri program recently earned the prestigious 2007 People Saving People Award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region VII office and the Missouri Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC). Selection was based on ThinkFirst’s long history of creative and ambitious traffic safety programming statewide and its leadership role as a model training center for chapters worldwide. The award was presented at the Annual Missouri LETSAC Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks on July 12, 2007.

ThinkFirst Missouri Hosts 2007 Regional Workshop

ThinkFirst Missouri recently hosted a region-wide injury prevention training workshop on July 20-21, 2007 in Columbia, MO. Voices for Injury Prevention (VIP) speakers and ThinkFirst chapter directors from Missouri, Iowa and Louisiana attended the two-day training event to improve presentation skills, learn about new safety education programs, and network with prevention colleagues. Participants also enjoyed the unveiling of the newly-released ThinkFirst VIP training film sponsored by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. The Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division served as the primary event sponsor.

A Gold-level award designation from the Mid Missouri Ad Federation automatically makes the winning entry eligible for national competition. ThinkFirst Missouri utilized the expert skills and staff of the WoodruffSweitzer ad agency in Columbia, Missouri to produce the poster. The Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division provided funding for the project.

The first annual Missouri Highway Safety Awards were presented to 4 groups and 12 individuals who work to save lives on Missouri roads.

Awards were presented at the Blueprint for Safer Roadways Conference in St. Louis, MO on November 29, 2006.
